Required Application Documents

  • Contact Information, Questionnaire and Essay (see instructions below)
  • Letter of recommendation from one adult other than a parent or teacher (a pastor, employer, mentor, etc. would serve as excellent sources)
  • Official high school transcript that includes the first semester of your senior year

Application Process

  • Contact Info/Questionnaire/Essay: Provide contact information. Answer each question listed under "Questionnaire and Essay Requirements" with one or two brief paragraphs.  Complete the essay. Use a computer with a standard word processing program (such as Microsoft Word) for all items listed in this section. Name your document file:  “J9Application-Your Name” and send it via email to: michael@j9foundation.org.
  • Recommendation: Ask the adult writing your recommendation to answer the following questions in a letter sent via email to: michael@j9foundation.org:  1) In what ways have you seen the applicant demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit and a compassionate heart? 2) How would you describe the applicant’s character?
  • Transcript: Send your official high school transcript via postal mail to: The J9 Foundation, 600 Union St., Brunswick, GA 31520
  • All application documents are due by April 8, 2011.
  • Questions: Please call Sandy Nyenhuis with any questions: 266-7505.
  • Interview: Finalists may be asked to participate in a personal interview with the selection committee.
  • Announcement/Award: The scholarship winner will be notified on April 21, Jacob’s birthday. Funds will be paid directly to the student each year by August 1.

  • What are your passions? Give specific examples of how they have influenced your life.
  • Describe ways your entrepreneurial spirit has led you to initiate ideas, activities, events or enterprises. What have you learned from these activities?
  • Describe how your entrepreneurial spirit would influence what you would do if you had $10,000?
  • Describe ways your compassionate heart has led you to serve others.
  • If you were given a chance to help a homeless person, what would be the first thing you would do?
  • What are your college and career plans?
  • Essay 
  • Describe in 500 words or less how you intend to use your entrepreneurial gifts in the future to serve others.
