Program Strategies
The J9 Foundation has four primary program areas:
Jacob J Nyenhuis, the foundation’s namesake, graduated in 2006 from Glynn Academy. The foundation annually grants a four-year college scholarship to a Glynn Academy graduate who articulates a passion for using his/her entrepreneurial gifts to serve others.
The foundation will remain in contact with these “J9 Scholars” through their college careers and beyond in order to share stories of success that will inspire other students.
Poverty traps millions of families around the world in communities that lack access to good education, health and nutrition and where violence and security are daily concerns. Among the most successful strategies to address poverty at the family level is microcredit. These programs provide small loans to entrepreneurs who otherwise lack access to capital. The loans allow them to buy tools and supplies needed to start small businesses.
Well run programs include training and integrate other means of development. They launch entrepreneurs into successful enterprises that have payback rates of nearly 100 percent. The J9 Foundation identifies trusted local partners in Africa who run effective, Christian-based microcredit programs with proven track records. With their help, we support specific entrepreneurs who have big dreams, strategies to make dreams reality and a heart to serve others. We ensure they have the training and support needed and commit to pray for them. Then, we track the success of these "J9 Entrepreneurs."
In Genesis 28, the Biblical patriarch Jacob saw a ladder reaching to heaven. The J9 Foundation's "Jacob's Ladder" program helps African entrepreneurs climb the ladder out of poverty.
