Jacob J Nyenhuis Scholarship Winners

 

 

Each spring, beginning in 2007, The J9 Foundation has awarded the Jacob J Nyenhuis Scholarship to a graduating senior from Jacob’s alma mater, Glynn Academy High School, Brunswick, Georgia.  So far, four students have been recipients of the scholarship that awards $2000 per school year for four years of academic study.

 

 

Catherine Wells, 2010 Scholarship Winner

Catherine's passion and service to young people with autism is what caught the attention of the judges.  Among many other acts of service, she once combined her passion, compassion and entrepreneurial spirit to begin an opportunity for special needs high school girls to get involved in cheerleading.  She saw their interest in cheerleading, but knew the obstacles that would keep them from being able to participate, so she made a way for them. Catherine's dream is to become a pediatrician. She has begun her undergraduate studies at Valdosta State University.

 

  

 

 

Luke Donohue, 2009 Scholarship Winner

Luke was awarded the 2009 Jacob J Nyenhuis Scholarship based on his demonstrated initiative and compassion to help others as well as his natural organizational and business-minded skills. Luke spearheaded a very successful campaign to raise money on behalf of young cancer patients through the Team AJ Charitable Foundation. Luke’s passion for cancer stems from the loss of his older brother, A.J. to bone cancer in September of 2006, the day before Jacob died in his accident. Luke is now in his sophmore year of college at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia. He continues to demonstrate his entrepreneurial and compassionate spirit through activities on campus and through his fraternity.  He also continues to play a role in the annual AJ Donohue Golf Tournament.

 

 

 

 

Megan Wiley, 2008 Scholarship Winner

Megan began her college career at GeorgiaCollege and StateUniversity with an interest in business.  Her passion for entrepreneurship led her to participate in the entrepreneurship program.  When the advisor for the program left GCSU mid-year, it lost steam which was a real disappointment for Megan.  However, she took advantage of opportunities that allowed her to exercise her leadership skills, and she joined a business fraternity. Megan began looking at business programs at other Georgia colleges and decided to transfer to Georgia Southern University because of the strong business program available there.  Her junior year at GSU is well underway, and she is excited about the new opportunities ahead of her.  Her passion for business and entrepreneurship remains strong.  Megan is currently pursuing a double major in Marketing and Management.

    

Thomas L. Parker IV, 2007 Scholarship Winner

Thomas began studying at the College of Charleston, with an interest in medicine and a compassionate desire to help others.  As is the case with most college students, Thomas has changed his academic focus and is exploring other areas of interest.  Thomas has transferred to the College of Coastal Georgia. While at CCG, he will decide upon the specific focus of his future course of study.  The pursuit of academic success continues to drive Thomas to do his best. His goal is to return to the College of Charleston or perhaps even the University of Georgia.

 

 

 

 

Those of us here at The J9 Foundation are committed to praying for all of our JJN Scholarship winners.  We know that the college years can be challenging and confusing, but also some of the best years of life.  Our hope is that these young scholars will be successful in their attempts to pursue their dreams and passions.  We pray for them all to continue to demonstrate compassion toward others who are in need.  These are some of the finest young people we have had the privilege to know.  We are very proud of them!
